Mt Tamalpais Area
On Sunday April 13 we will be hiking not one, but two trails in the Mt Tamalpais area in Marin County, north of San Francisco. They are both highly rated as very beautiful hikes with gorgeous scenery.
Secret Ravine Trail
The first hike is the Secret Ravine Trail. I rate the hike as moderately difficult. It's only 4mi but has a moderate amount of ascent in that distance. Expect to see:
- Redwood forests
- Waterfalls and wildflowers
- A lot of people on the trail
Because of the expected crowds we are leaving home at 7:30am with an expected arrival time of 9:30am.
Steep Ravine Trail: 4mi; 1079ft elevation gain; Need to arrive early. Drive ~ 2hr one way; Hike Time: 2hr 20min; MODERATE.

Day use parking passes can be purchased from an automated pay station located at the Sky Oaks Headquarters entrance kiosk, if you enter via Sky Oaks Road off Fairfax-Bolinas Road. Presumably if you enter via Shoreline Hwy to Fairfax Bolinas Rd a parking pass is not required?
Please don't forget to pack:
- Sun protection
- Snacks and/or lunch
- Water (1 litre per hour of hiking)
Please wear sturdy shoes and wear layers of clothing that can be shed and stored in your day pack as the day gets warmer.
